(1.) “Development of Cold Trap for the purification studies of liquid Pb-Li corrosion loop for the application in IN-TBM for ITER”
Cold trap is part of lead lithium purification system and it is used to trap impurities like oxides, hydrides and preferentially leached out elements from structural material in Indian-TBM. This project aims to develop a cold trap of efficient mesh size to trap impurities without affecting the pressure drop. In this direction, initial experiments with salt water is done and simulation using Ansys Fluent is under process. Further experiments with lead-lithium will be done. [click here for more details]
(2.) “Lab scale development and studies of lead lithium eutectic alloy for the application in IN-TBM for ITER as a coolant and tritium breeder” Lead-Lithium eutectic alloy is one of the promising candidate for tritium breeding material in fusion reactor. Besides, it also acts as a coolant, neutron multiplier and radiation absorber in fusion reactor. This project aims the indigenous development of this alloy for Indian-TBM to be tested in ITER. This alloy is successfully developed for the first time in India in substantial amount of 5 Kg cast. Thesis Project In this work, experimental and analytical approaches were taken to study how non-dendritic microstructures form and evolve in Al-7Si alloy. Experimental results showed that particles in quenched rheocast alloy were already spheriodal which was due to the rapid heat extraction and shearing during RSF process. SS 304LN is material for Calandria vessel and Calandria tubes for the Nuclear reactor and power plants. For such a sophisticated application like this, minimum defect joining technique has to be adopted for which Laser welding proves to be the most viable option. In this project work, weld beads have been produced on 5 mm thick plates of SS 304LN at different laser power density and interaction time combinations. Effect of laser power density and interaction time on weld pool morphology has been studied. [click here for more details]
(5.) “System of Rail failure analysis in R.D.S.O.” This project is based on metallurgical investigation of different rails failed/fractured in Indian Railways, which carried out in Metallurgical and Chemical (M & C) Directorate, R.D.S.O, Lucknow, to keep check on the internal and external soundness of Rail components.
